Carpooling is on the Fast Track
You have probably notices that carpooling is growing in practice, both in and around urban areas. Beyond the traditional "school drop off", it is gaining considerably more acceptance among commuters, as cities grow and homes extend further and further from the centre core.

Although carpooling has been part of commuting life for some time now, it is now becoming even more popular, because drivers are becoming all the more painfully aware of increasing costs, congestion, and pollution. In addition, it is becoming easier for motorists with similar destinations to find convenient meeting points like major malls and carpool designated parking lots, where some commuters can park their cars for the day and join the "designated driver" for the remainder of the ride.

Carpooling to and from work can help reduce stress.

Factors "Driving" the Trend to Reduce Car Dependency:
· Costs continue to increase, due to rising purchase and lease fees, insurance, maintenance, gas and parking
· Toll roads are becoming more commonplace
· City thoroughfares and expressways have more designated lanes during rush hour for taxis, buses and carpoolers (3 adults or more per car)
· Traffic, pollution and more unpredictable weather make driving less desirable

The more cities expand, the clearer it becomes that reduced dependency on automobiles is a good thing for all of us. As car owners evaluate their driving habits, the idea of sharing their vehicles is becoming more readily acceptable. By doing so, they are helping to mange congestion, reduce pollution, and are making the daily commute a little easier on themselves and well as others.
