How to Conquer Clutter this Winter
Let's face it, some of us have more clutter than others - and when we need to get things dome, this clutter can be extremely frustrating. During the winter, when bulky clothing, boots and sports equipment are in sue, all the "stuff" can really get in the way. Of course, it isn't easy to cram it all into a smaller space, or to create more space in which to store it. So, to help you win your war against clutter, here are a few simple suggestions you can follow.

Follow the time management rule: Deal with each item only once. Make a decision to store it, dispose of it, or keep it handy. Hint: If you haven't used it in over a year, or can't foresee using it soon, it may have lost some if it's immediate value (sentimental or otherwise) and may not belong close at hand.

Take it slowly, but take it out: Your goal is to dispose of those things that get in your way. So ask yourself, if it were gone tomorrow, would it really matter? You don't have to agonize over every item; just look for ways to economize on space, as if you were packing for an extended trip.

Create a place for everything you need: every closet should have a functional organizer. For day-to-day stuff you can't put away, use containers finished with fabric or boxes and baskets make of eye pleasing wicker, leather, wood or painted metal mesh.

Show your style: When things are visible, they should contribute to a positive impression overall. To achieve a really organized appearance, use complimentary themes, colours or sizes. After all, fighting clutter is really about the way things look.

If you aren't consistent in your habits, the clutter problem may return before you know it, so remind yourself to follow through frequently, and stay on top of the challenge. Maintain a daily, weekly or monthly regiment to regularly dispose of what you don't need. If you're serious about an anti-clutter strategy, you'll have to keep up the good fight, and reassess your situation at least twice a year.
