Do-It-Yourself
Home Décor Tips
Even if you're not experienced, you can still do your own interior decorating.
Simply start slowly, in a less-frequented room, where you can review your
work over time and adjust as you go. Here are a few basic tips to help
you get started
Work With What
You Have
Utilize your location and its best features. Take advantage of space and
light to create visually interesting sightlines.
Look For Inspiration
If you need inspiration for a design, motif or treatment, look to nature
for positive influences. Chances are, if natural shapes, textures and
colours work well in a garden or forest, they'll also work well in your
home.
Be Consistent
Work with one main theme or style, from a certain time or place. Use a
dominant centerpiece - or two complimentary centerpieces - then add supporting
touches.
Express Yourself
Don't hold back - this is your opportunity to show your personal touch.
Above all, have fun, and finish with flair!
Remember, interior décor is all about having a positive effect
on your environment. For some, hiring a dedicated designer is the best
way to achieve this. For others, a brief session with an experienced consultant
is just what they need to get started. Whichever way you choose, consider
your project carefully before deciding on how you will proceed.
TV Medium is Becoming
Large
The video screen will be changing how we use and arrange family room furniture
in the near future, just as the television helped turn the parlor into
the living room fifty years ago. Soon it will become commonplace for large,
flat video screens to be mounted on walls, instead of taking up valuable
floor space.
When the video monitor or computer screen is not "in use", it
may serve as a different kind of focal point, by displaying a digitized
image of a favorite painting or outdoor scene. Imagine an instant waterfall,
fireplace or artistic masterpiece on your wall - not a bad way to create
a new look in your home, with just the push of a button.
