Home Makeover Season is Here!
As the season changes to winter, many parts of our lifestyle dictate that we "cocoon" from the great outdoors, and change out home's appearance and function to address our indoor activities. So, to help you get your home ready for winter living, here are some quick and effective makeover ideas.

Paint Changes Everything
Without question, the fastest, most economical way to get a new effect is to pick up a paintbrush or roller. Even on just one wall, pain can change a room dramatically. Before you start repainting, bring home a can of your new colour choice (or choices) and paint a sample area to see how the colour looks in your home's lighting. You might also consider getting guidance from your local paint and décor centre on how to try one of the popular faux effects on your walls or how to use a stencil or handmade stamp impression as a trim effect. Then again, if you're a little more adventurous, you might want to try Anaglypta - a type of embossed or textured wallpaper with traditional and contemporary patterns you can paint over for a dramatic affect.

Fabricating Ideas
In winter, it's easier to get comfortable indoors when surrounded by darker, warmer colours, rather than crisp, cool summer shades. To get that soft, cozy feel, consider changing your more visible fabrics like curtains and slipcovers. For a less expensive alternative, try experimenting with different combinations of colour and texture, by introducing throw blankets and accent pillows. If you have broadloom, consider adding mats or a small carpet for more comfort and contrast.

Yes, You can Do This
In addition to changing walls and fabrics, consider giving old furniture a new finish. If you're really ambitious, you can even get busy in the kitchen or bathroom by applying oil based or acrylic paint over old ceramic tiles (again, check with your paint dealer first). Of course, a less drastic but always charming improvement comes from the addition of fresh cut flowers or decorated indoor plants but don't forget that winter views are often spectacular, so position some potted outdoor evergreens for a delightful seasonal effect - and make sure you include accent lighting. The more you put into your makeover, the more you will enjoy your home during the winter season it's the kind of project you will really appreciate after it's completed, especially when you're relaxing on a cold winter night.
